SUMMARY:The 2025 Club Campout - McKenzie River\, OR
DESCRIPTION:Break out the firepits and the camp chairs\, it's the annual OKCC members campout! This year the club has reserved the Horse Creek group site on the McKenzie River\, so come join us for a weekend of boating\, camping and good times. The McKenzie offers several beautiful runs of varying difficulty so there should be something for everyone. Please be sure to RSVP either here or on the Facebook event listing so that we can can get a headcount for Saturday's BBQ and plan the river trips safely. Be there or be square! \nLocation: Horse Creek Campground- McKenzie Bridge\, OR \nDirections:  \nFrom McKenzie Bridge\, OR\,  travel east on Highway 126 to Horse Creek Road #2638. \nFollow Horse Creek Road southeast for 2 miles to Horse Creek Group Campsite. \nWhen: Check-in at the campground begins at 2:00 pm Thursday\, June 19th. Checkout from the campground is 1 pm Sunday June 22nd. \nWhat about the food? \nThe club will provide burgers/hot dogs/vegetarian option along with the fixin's on Saturday night\, but it's your responsibility to bring the majority of your meals/snacks/beverages. Alcohol is allowed after we're off the water\, but will not provided by the club. There is potable water available at the campground. \nWhat about the amenities? Horse Creek campground has vault toilets\, picnic tables\, fire rings\, garbage bins and potable drinking water available. \nWhat about the boating? Trip leaders and runs are still TBD\, but we will run at least one Class II and one Class III trip. \nAs with all on-water OKCC events\, a signed waiver\, properly fitted whitewater helmet & PFD\, float bags\, whistle\, and appropriate immersion gear/footwear are required. (Please note that the McKenzie stays quite cold year-round\, please dress appropriately). \nWhat about the campfire? \n\nIf there is a burn-ban in effect\, only propane fire-pits/ camp stoves with shut-off valves will be allowed.\nIf there is no burn ban in effect\, there are fire-rings at the campground but firewood must be brought in.

Sunday June 2nd: a Class II run from Icehouse to Turkey Hole\, (trip leader: Emily Hooker). Please contact the pertinent trip leaders if you have questions about the respective runs when we get closer to the date and have trip leaders designated. (As with all OKCC trips\, a properly fitted whitewater helmet & pfd\, whistle\, float bags\, appropriate immersion gear and a signed OKCC waiver are required to participate in on-water activities).\nHot Dogs and Burgers will be provided Saturday night (bring your own sides and adult beverages if you so desire)\, breakfast will be provided Sunday. Snacks and basic sandwich fixin's will also be available.\nMany of us will be at the camp site Friday evening if you want to get your camp on early.\nPlease note that a Washington State Discover Pass is required to park at all put ins/take outs/ campgrounds.\n\nLeidl Campground\n\nAmenities are limited. Water is not available at the campground so please bring enough water for your party. The sites are large enough to pull trailers in\, but there are no hookups. Pit toilets only.\nThere will likely be a fire ban in effect in Klickitat County\, this means NO wood\, charcoal or solid fuel fires or stoves of any kind. Propane stoves and firepits with a shutoff valve are OK. As of May 28th\, fire ban in Klickitat County is scheduled to start on June 3rd\, so we might be able to do a campfire this year!\nMosquitos are definitely a thing here\, don't forget your favorite method of bug repellent!\n\nDirections:\nFrom Klickitat: travel NE on SR 142 approximately 9.6 miles\, turn left on Glenwood Hwy.Go 11 miles to Leidl Bridge. Go 11 miles to Leidl Bridge. (and paddle of course)! \n•When/Where: the BBQ will be held at around 4 pm Saturday\, July 23rd at Northwestern Park in Husum\, WA (you do not have to paddle that day to join the BBQ festivities). \n•The runs: We will have two official trips running before the BBQ: a MWS (class III trip) group meeting at the park around 10 am\, and a LWS (class II trip) group meeting at the park around 11 am. Trip Leaders TBD\, stand by for further info later in the week. \n•Once the paddlers finish up\, we'll all gather at the park for some tasty burgers and hotdogs with all the fixin's provided by the club. Bring your own sides and tasty beverages to round out the fare! \n☆If you are paddling: these are official club trips. A signed waiver\, properly fitted whitewater helmet & pfd\, whistle\, float bags\, appropriate footwear & immersion gear and a throw bag are required to participate.
