DESCRIPTION:Most of us have paddled the Upper Clackamas many times\, but have you really taken advantage of all the river offers when it comes to building your skills? This trip will focus on nailing tight eddies\, exploring unusual lines lines\, surfing waves\, and more.\n\nWho should sign up? (Open to OKCC members only) Folks with a solid roll and class III skills.  We will be pushing our boating to mimic class IV moves on a class III section. DESCRIPTION:Most of us have paddled the Upper Clackamas many times\, but have you really taken advantage of all the river offers when it comes to building your skills? This paddle will focus on nailing eddies\, ferry work\, rolling\, t-rescues\, exploring unusual lines and more. \n\n\n\nWho should sign up? (Open to OKCC members only) Class II boaters and beyond. SUMMARY:The 2025 Club Campout - McKenzie River\, OR
DESCRIPTION:Break out the firepits and the camp chairs\, it's the annual OKCC members campout! This year the club has reserved the Horse Creek group site on the McKenzie River\, so come join us for a weekend of boating\, camping and good times. The McKenzie offers several beautiful runs of varying difficulty so there should be something for everyone. Please be sure to RSVP either here or on the Facebook event listing so that we can can get a headcount for Saturday's BBQ and plan the river trips safely. Be there or be square! \nLocation: Horse Creek Campground- McKenzie Bridge\, OR \nDirections:  \nFrom McKenzie Bridge\, OR\,  travel east on Highway 126 to Horse Creek Road #2638. \nFollow Horse Creek Road southeast for 2 miles to Horse Creek Group Campsite. \nWhen: Check-in at the campground begins at 2:00 pm Thursday\, June 19th. Checkout from the campground is 1 pm Sunday June 22nd. \nWhat about the food? \nThe club will provide burgers/hot dogs/vegetarian option along with the fixin's on Saturday night\, but it's your responsibility to bring the majority of your meals/snacks/beverages. Alcohol is allowed after we're off the water\, but will not provided by the club. There is potable water available at the campground. \nWhat about the amenities? Horse Creek campground has vault toilets\, picnic tables\, fire rings\, garbage bins and potable drinking water available. \nWhat about the boating? Trip leaders and runs are still TBD\, but we will run at least one Class II and one Class III trip. \nAs with all on-water OKCC events\, a signed waiver\, properly fitted whitewater helmet & PFD\, float bags\, whistle\, and appropriate immersion gear/footwear are required. (Please note that the McKenzie stays quite cold year-round\, please dress appropriately). \nWhat about the campfire? \n\nIf there is a burn-ban in effect\, only propane fire-pits/ camp stoves with shut-off valves will be allowed.\nIf there is no burn ban in effect\, there are fire-rings at the campground but firewood must be brought in.

SUMMARY:OKCC Swiftwater Safety Training Weekend with Lee Baker 2025
DESCRIPTION:New to Whitewater? Out of date on your swiftwater safety training? If you're a current OKCC member\, reserve one of the 18 spots for the 2025 OKCC Swiftwater Safety Training Weekend July 26th-27th! \nThis class is an ACA Swiftwater Rescue level 4 course that takes a kayak specific approach to learning the fundamentals of rescue. The course is highly interactive and designed to challenge kayakers of all skill levels\, so beginners and experienced paddlers alike are welcome. Participants will need a hardshell or inflatable kayak for the downriver portions of the course as well as a PFD\, whitewater helmet\, whistle\, appropriate immersion wear & footwear\, throw bag\, and at least 2 float bags (hardshells only) and of course\, a current signed OKCC waiver. \nInstructor: Lee Baker of Gradient River Essentials. Lee is an experienced Level 4 ACA instructor with over 25 years of whitewater experience. \nLocation:  Middle Fork Willamette/Black Canyon Campground \nCost: $125 for current OKCC members. (there will also be an $8/vehicle fee at the campground). This class is only available to paid-members as the club subsidizes a significant portion of the fees. \nTopics Covered: Recognition and avoidance of common river hazards\, execution of self-rescue techniques\, and rescue techniques for paddlers in distress. Emphasis is placed on both personal safety and commonly used skills. Fundamental and more advanced techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risk for both victim and rescuer\, such as strainers\, rescue vest applications\, entrapments\, and pins will also be practiced. Scenarios will provide an opportunity for participants to practice their skills both individually and within a team/group context. \nPlease note: Campsites will be reserved and paid for by OKCC\, however there will be an $8/vehicle fee that you will be responsible for. The club will also provide coffee and snacks\, but meals and beverages are the responsibility of each participant. We encourage you to bring plenty of extra calories and water for the weekend\, as we will be working hard!
